Referring to Canada's same-sex marriage law, the pope said, "In the name of 'tolerance' your country has had to endure the folly of the redefinition of spouse."He also criticized the continued legality of abortion, saying, "In the name of 'freedom of choice' (the country) is confronted with the daily destruction of unborn children."
Hmmm.
Not that I put much creedence inthe moral and spiritual guidance from a former Nazi (we all did crazy stuff in our youth, eh?) but I wonder if the Holy Father has read de Tobiatha by Saint Ambrose.... in particular the bit that says abortion is ok?
May God have mercy on his soul.

Who really cares what the Pope says. We are a multi-ethnic secular country with people of many faiths and some of no faith so we should ignore him. I should note his home country Germany also allows abortion and I've heard some polls suggest over 60% of Germans would support same-sex marriage. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the issue lands in front of the European Court of Justice, which might just force all EU countries to legalize SSM. However, even if this doesn't happen, Canada may have been the third or fourth (Spain legalized SSM around the same time, while Belgium and Netherlands were before), there will be many more to come.
